Wow, it was such a great turnout at our last concert folks, and on behalf of all the musicians, many many thanks for your continued support of the big band for the last 7 years. We so enjoy playing big band music at its finest for you and to end off this season with the fantastic HUGH FRASER this Sat.......the 26th of Jun........will be just thrilling !!!!
Some of the band arrangements include : " IF I WERE A BELLSON " as recorded by the composer Frank Mantooth and dedicated to the fabulous drummer Louie Bellson, " LONELY CAROUSEL " as recorded by the Bob Florence Big Band and Prime Time Big Band ! , " CAJUN COOKIN' " , as recorded by the great Maynard Ferguson and " SAMBANDREA SWING " as recorded by Louis Bellson and his Band. Shari will be singing some of Hugh Fraser's charts plus others yet to be decided.
Speaking of the great trombone, piano player, composer, arranger and educator himself....HUGH FRASER will be leading the band with his own compositions and arrangements which will include " THE KEY OF LOVE ", " FAIRYTALES ", " LEDA'S SONG ", and " THANK YOU VERY MUCH " !!!!! As I said in my last letter, I know this will be a wonderful wonderful final concert in our 7th season at the Ironwood so once again folks, call soonest to make reservations.

Jazz trombone & piano player, composer,
arranger and educator Hugh Fraser, will guest solo
with Prime Time Big Band in Calgary, Alberta on June 26,
2010. Prime Time Big Band Productions is proud to
announce that jazz musician Hugh Fraser will guest
solo with Calgary's own Prime Time Big Band at the
Ironwood Stage and Grill on June 26, 2010 from 2 p.m.
to 4 p.m. as a part of their regular concert series.
Admission is $35.00 for adults and $25.00 for
students.
Native Victorian Hugh Fraser has been a
positive force to the world of music for over two
decades. He formed the 13 member Vancouver Ensemble of
Jazz Improvisation (VEJI) in 1980 then went on to
international success with The Hugh Fraser Quintet in
1986. The Quintet tours Europe, North and South America
yearly. He was voted Canadian Trombonist of the Year
by the National Jazz Awards and received this honour
in 1996, 1998, 2005 and 2008.
Hugh has recorded
over one hundred of his compositions on seventeen albums
as a leader. He won two Juno Awards and had many
nominations for these recordings and has appeared on
over twenty albums as a sideman including recent releases
by Cuban bands Chucho Valdes and Irakere on Bembe
Records, Perspectiva on Egrem Records, and Kenny
Wheeler on ECM Records.
As an educator, Hugh has
served as the Program Head of Jazz at the Banff Centre
for Fine Arts, Head of Jazz Composition at the Royal
Academy of Music in London, England, Head of the
University of Ulster Summer Jazz Workshop in Ireland and
is much sought after as a guest clinician by all major
progressive institutions. Hugh received an honourary
Doctorate from McMaster University.
Hugh has
performed and/or recorded with such artists as Jaki
Byard, Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie, Maynard Ferguson,
Billy Ekstein, Slide Hampton, Frank Foster, Don
Thompson, Shorty Rogers, Kenny Wheeler, Dave Holland,
Muhal Richard Abrams, Robin Eubanks, Dave Liebman,
Sheila Jordan, and Jean Toussaint.
Hugh Frazer
will guest solo with Prime Time Big Band which was
founded in 1994 by director Dave Jones. Comprised of
Calgary's top professional musicians, the band has
performed hundreds of engagements featuring jazz artists
such as Tommy Banks, P.J. Perry, Guido Basso, Alastair
Kay, Bobby Shew, Phil Nimmons, Mike Tomaro, Peter
Appleyard, Phil Woods, Bob Mintzer, George Robert, Ian
McDougall, Paul Wertico, Andrea Tofanelli, Adam Rapa,
Ingrid Jensen, Chris Jaudes, Walter White, Sean Jones,
Wycliffe Gordon, Allen Vizzuti and Doc Severinsen.
