Saturday Brunch featuring Allen Vizzutti with Prime Time Big Band

Prime Time Big Band is thrilled to announce international trumpet virtuoso Allen Vizzutti as their first special guest performer for their 13th season at Ironwood Stage & Grill. Vizzutti will solo with the band for its afternoon brunch concert on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2 – 4 p.m.
As both a jazz and classical artist, Vizzutti is a global trumpet superstar whose solo performances at the Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall, Newport Jazz Festival, Banff Center for the Performing Arts, Montreux Jazz Festival, the Teton, Vail, Aspen and Breckenridge Music Festivals, the Charles Ives Center and Lincoln Center in New York City number only a few in his list of concerts on the big stages of more than 60 countries.
He has appeared as guest soloist with symphony orchestras, in recital, on television and in jazz venues around the world, playing with a huge variety of music stars–Chick Corea, Doc Severinsen, Chuck Mangione, Woody Herman–the list goes on and on. His soaring trumpet sound can be heard on more than 150 movie and game soundtracks, including Star Trek, Back to the Future, Halo and Medal of Honor.
Vizzutti’s compositions have premiered with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Budapest Radio Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic of London, the Nuremberg Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Summit Brass and the US Navy and Air Force bands. He is a much sought music educator worldwide and his “Allen Vizzutti Trumpet Method” and “New Concepts for Trumpet” have become standard works for trumpet study everywhere.
“Needless to say, we feel very honored to have Allen appear with us at the Ironwood,” says Prime Time Big Band director Dave Jones. “We have played with him on two other occasions: the Calgary Philharmonic’s Big Band Tonight concert two years ago, and the International Trumpet Guild Conference at the Banff Centre in 2008. Those were both highly memorable events and we are planning to make this next show one that will dazzle the audience, even long after it is over.”
With Prime Time, Vizzutti will be joining some of the best jazz musicians in western Canada. Founded 20 years ago by bandleader Dave Jones, the band’s roster is comprised of most of Calgary’s veteran jazz players, including WCMA Heritage Award winner, trumpeter Al Muirhead, alongside younger established professionals.
